Austin Asian-American Basketball League Rules & Regulation

Teams:

A Registration fee is required to participate.  A 50% Registration Deposit is required to secure a slot on the Team Roster. Registration Deadline will be posted ahead of scheduled season start. The remaining payment will be due no later than the first game of the season. (ALL team FEES must be paid). No fees will be refunded.
 

The Austin Asian-American Basketball League is open to all teams and players of Asian descent. Players must be at least 50% Asian to be eligible to play. These players must be able to show proof of identity (Birth Certificate and Drivers license or parent’s birth certificate, etc.).  Questions on ethnicity and eligibility should be brought to the attention of the organizers. The definition of a player of Asian descent is as follows: at least one grandparent must be of 100% Asian heritage.  A complaint must be done verbally or written to the League official(s) before the game starts. 

BURDEN OF PROOF: Organizers will request proof from all players that may be in question. Proper documentation will be required. Illegible copies will not be accepted. The burden of proof is on you to prove your ethnicity (Playing in a tournaments/League previously hosted by us does not mean you are eligible to play at this League).

Any team who fail to follow the agreed date of registration dues after the First Game of the regular season will forfeit the remaining season games.  Teams who fail to comply with the registration requirements without the advance agreement of the team management and the league administration will forfeit the rest of the season.

 

Players:

There may only be a maximum of 10-15 players per team roster.  The number of players to begin a game without forfeiting is 4.  If a player arrives late to a game, he must wait until a timeout is called to check in. A technical foul will be given to the team if any players enter the game without checking in.  Team roster become finalized in the 2nd game of the season – meaning you cannot add or replace a player from your roster.
Participation in the Austin Asian-American Basketball League is open to any organized Asian-American amateur basketball team that meets the criteria for players. The team must pay the required registration fee and must wear team uniforms of the same color with a distinct number on the back.   Player shorts must be with no pockets.  Participation in the League is a privilege that can be revoked for rules violations.

The final line-up or roster must be submitted before the start of the League.  No players will be added after line-up or roster has been submitted no later than 2nd game of the season. 

 

Game Rules

Regulation Time:

All games will be played in two (2) twenty (20) minute halves. 

The game clock will continuously run for the first half and first 18 minutes of the second half, except for timeouts & stoppages of play at the referee’s discretion.  Halftime will be 5 minutes.   

The last two minutes in the second half, the game clock will stop after a dead ball situation and time-outs.    

Mercy Rule Applies:  If a team is behind by 20 points, the clock will continue to run unless officials stop it.  If a team is behind 50 pts at anytime, the commissioner/referee will stop and call the game as over. 

Overtime:  

Overtime will be 3 minutes, with the clock running continuously for the 2 minutes and stopping in the last minute in a dead ball situation or timeouts.  If there is a 2nd OT, time will be 1 minute and any successive OT period until winner is determined.

 

Timeouts:  

Each team is allowed two (2) thirty second timeouts per half only and one (1) additional timeout for overtime.  One (1) timeout will carry-over to overtime if not used in regular period.

 

Bonus Rules:  

A 1-on-1 free-throw bonus free throws will be awarded on the 7th, 8th and 9th teams foul per half. 

Two (2) free throws will be awarded on the 10th team foul per half.

 

Fouls: 

The 5th foul will disqualify a player to continue playing. 

A technical foul will be counted as personal when committed.   

Two technical fouls from a player will disqualify him from the remainder of the game.

 

Playoffs:  Single Elimination

A player must play a minimum 2 games and be in a team roster to qualify to play for the PLAYOFFS.  

Protest:

All protest must be based on League rule violation(s).  Protest involving referee’s calls will not be considered.   

Protest regarding player eligibility must be submitted before a game start(s). 

Protest finding a team of having an ineligible player will forfeit the game where the player participated or also forfeit the next game.

 

Timeliness & Player/Coach/Managers Etiquette: 

GAMETIMES will be played as scheduled – a grace period of 5-7 minutes or at the League Official’s discretion to forfeit a team.  So each team needs to be in the designated court and time with a minimum of 4 players to start the game. 

Players, coaches, managers are expected to maintain the highest standard of sportsmanship toward each other, as well as to the spectators, officials and referee’s.  The League/Facility officials will not tolerate disruptive behavior on or off the court.  If a player or spectator instigate a fight, inciting, encouraging aggressive behavior or caught acting with intent to cause physical injury to another (player or spectator), will be summarily disqualified and will suspended for next game or not be permitted to participate in the remainder of the League games, per League officials discretion.  In the event of any physical confrontations, players on the bench must remain on the bench.  Coaches, team captains and managers of those involved must fully cooperate with tournament officials in controlling the situation.  Violators will be suspended for the remainder of the game upon official’s discretion.

 

Release of Liability: 

All participants/teams of the Austin Asian-American Basketball League are required to sign a Team’s/Individual Release of Liability form.  The form will be distributed to the coaches, team captains and managers and they will be responsible for their team’s compliance.  This must be submitted along with the team roster at the beginning of the season.
